Our MissionOrange Easel exists to provide a space for creative children to learn new art techniques, connect with others, and grow as artists.

Core ValuesCHILDRENS' ART SHOULD BE KID-DRIVEN
Our artists determine their subject, design their composition, and solve problems along the way. Orange Easel Instructors can advise, assist, and critique but ultimately, our artists create their art how they want to create their art. CHILDRENS' ART SHOULD BE KID-CREATED
When giving feedback or helping an artist work through a problem, Orange Easel Instructors will give verbal instructions along with pointing or miming an art tool. We demonstrate techniques on a separate canvas or paper from the one that the artist is working on. If it is appropriate, instructors may also work hand-over-hand with an artist. Instructors will not make marks on the artists' work. THE CREATIVE PROCESS HAS AS MUCH VALUE AS THE RESULTING ARTWORK
We brainstorm ideas, learn new techniques, practice a bunch, fix mistakes, solve problems, and work to complete our composition. This process has VALUE regardless of the resulting artwork that goes home. THERE'S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR TIME AND PRACTICE
No magic phrase from our instructors can suddenly make someone great at drawing or painting. Like playing a music instrument, playing a sport, or learning ballet, art skills take time and practice. Our role is to support, encourage, teach techniques, and give feedback. |
