We get a lot of questions about our summer programming, because it's DIFFERENT than anything we do all year long. Here, we've answered our most commonly asked questions. If you read through these and you didn't get your question answered, please don't hesitate to [Contact Us].
Questions about Storytime Art Classes
My child is 18 months, but the class is listed for ages 2-6. Can I still register my child for this class?
Yes, you can. We welcome our younger kiddos to join us in class to participate at whatever level they can. Understand that the curriculum class is designed towards the 3-4 year old audiences, with some wiggle room on either side to get us to our 2-6 age range.
My child isn't three yet, so I will have to stay with him. But I have a 8 month old as well. Can I bring the baby? Do I have to register/pay for his sibling?
If the sibling is under the age of 2, you do not have to pay any registration fees for the second child. Unless you want the 8 month old to be able to do the art projects. We only purchase and prep enough supplies for the registered artists. If you have a 2.5 year old and an 18 month old who will want to participate instead of just watch, you better register for two!
My son isn't three yet, so I will have to stay with him. Can his 8-year-old sister attend this class as well? Even though it say for ages 2-6?
Yes, your older kiddo may also attend with a sibling. Older siblings must be registered and pay class fees. And they will need to be courteous of the younger artists.
My child isn't three yet, so I will have to stay with him in class. I will have his 8-year-old sister with me too. Can she hang out in the lobby during class?
Well...if you're comfortable with it and you are still able to be present in class with your two year old, sure. Please be aware that there is no supervision in the lobby by the Orange Easel staff during this time.
My daughter is five. Can I still stay in class with her?
Can I bring a stroller?
You can, but we don't recommend it. Our classes will have 16 preschoolers, about a dozen parents, and three instructors. The whole space will be used...we will move from the large tables, to the lounge, back to the tables, out to the patio, into the small preschool art room, and back to the tables. Pushing a stroller (if it's a big one) isn't easy through all those people and doors. Infant carriers, car seats, or baby wearing usually works better.
My child is three but not potty trained. Do I have to stay?
No. But we do ask that you take your child to the bathroom before class, dress him/her in a pull-up, and pack a change of clothes/unders just in case. If during class, your child asked to use the restroom, our instructors will help with the process, but we will not prompt potty-training children to use the restroom base on a time clock (for example, "every 30 minutes"). We will not check diapers or pull-ups during class, but if we notice an accident, we are fully equip to handle it.
I want to register for the whole month of June on Mondays but we can't come on one of the Mondays. Can we come on that Friday instead?
No, the bundle deals do not transfer. If you register for Mondays, it's only good for the Monday classes. We can't mix-and-match. #registrationnightmare
Do you offer classes for JUST infants and toddlers?
Not yet. But soon. Watch our fall schedule.
Questions about Art in the Afternoon
Why do you use ages instead of grades in the summer?
Because with summer school, it's too confusing to figure out if the cut-off is the grade you just finished or the grade you're going into.
My child isn't 6 yet. Can he still come to Art in the Afternoon on Mondays or Tuesdays?
If your child will turn 6 prior to July 31st, yes. (Because those summer birthday kiddos should be able to be with the rest of their grade) But fall birthdays, no.
But, he's really mature.
But his sister will be with him.
My child isn't 9 yet. Can she still come to Art in the Afternoon on Thursdays?
If your child will turn 9 prior to July 31st, yes. (Because those summer birthday kiddos should be able to be with the rest of their grade) But fall birthdays, no.
My child is 16. Can she still attend these classes?
Yes. These projects are fun for older artists as well. Heck, Miss Allison had a great time testing them all out. Just make sure she's okay with being in a class with six year olds. Maybe bring some earbuds.
We want to do all the Art in the Afternoons on Tuesdays in July, but we can't do ONE of them. Can we do the class on Monday instead?
You can register for each class individually and do it that way. You can not mix-and-match and still get the discount.
My child is 10 and likes half of the Tuesday projects and half of the Thursday projects. Can we still register with a discount?
No, the bundle deal are not create-your-own. You can register a-la-carte and get exactly what you want.
Can I attend this class with my child?
No, this is a kids' only class.
Questions about Glitterfest
Why don't you do a Glitterfest in July. We can't go in June because of Summer School?!
The Fourth of July holiday shortens the amount of programming we can do in July. June just works better. But we have an August Glitterfest this year! Don't wait too long...that one will book up quickly!
Are all the Glitterfests the same?
Yes, three identical sessions
My daughter would LOVE this but she's only four. Can she still come?
If she will turn 5 before July 31st, yes. (Because those summer birthday kiddos should be able to be with the rest of their grade) But fall birthdays, no.
But she's really mature?
But her sister will be there too and I think she'll do fine!
If my son wants to go to Glitterfest, do you have a shirt that isn't a girls cut?
Yes! We'll get one made just for him. And he'll have his choice of colors. Just register him and then shoot us an email.
If we register late, do we still get to pick our shirts?
Registration for custom shirt colors and sizes closes June 13th. If you register after that, we will have size large shirts in a variety of colors.
Is the body glitter safe?
The glitter we will use on our skin is cosmetic grade. We will also be using craft glitter and that's bound to spread to hands and body unintentionally.
Does it wash out?
The face paints and body glitter is all washable. Everything else...it's not NOT washable. But you know glitter. It doesn't really ever go away. It lives on forever.
Can I attend Glitterfest with my child?
No, this is a kids' only camp.
Is it different than last year? And the year before?
Oh, yes! Bigger and better than ever!
Questions about Fairy House Workshops
Are both workshops the same?
Yes, two identical sessions.
My child is still three, can she come? She loves fairies.
If she will turn 4 before July 31st, yes. (because that's the school year cutoff)
My child is 9 and loves fairies, but the class says it's for ages 4 to 8. Can she still come? Will she be too old?
She is welcome to come. She'll be a master at the hot glue gun! Just make sure she okay with being in a class with younger artists.
Can I attend the fairy house class with my child?
No, this is a kids' only workshop.
Questions about Wednesday Art Camps
My child is still four, can she come? She goes to preschool so I think she'll be fine all day?
If she will turn five before July 31st, yes. (Because that's our school year cutoff)
My child is 13 and would LOVE this. Is she too old?
Not at all. The curriculum is written for a 2nd grade level. The projects are designed for all ages. She'll be able to take her art projects up to her level. Just make sure she's okay with being in the studio all day with a younger crowd.
For lunches, do you have any restrictions for allergens?
No, you can pack whatever you want in your child's lunch. If you child has food allergies, please let us know so we can take precautions to ensure the safety of your child.
Questions about Registrations?
We registered for a class and then found out that my daughter's friend is in the other class. Can we switch?
If it's part of a bundle deal (discount), no. If you registered for the class singly, email us and we'll see what we can do. As long as there's room in the other class, we'll do the best we can.
We registered for all the Tuesdays but now we need to switch to all the Mondays because we have swim lessons. Can we do that?
Just email us and we'll do our best. As long as there is room in the class, we'll make the switch.
We registered for class but found out that my daughter's not going to be able to make it. Can I get a refund?
No, all summer registrations are non-refundable. If you have a friend who would like to take your place, we can transfer the registration over to his/her name and you can settle up monetarily on your own.
We had to miss a class because my son was sick. Can we come to a different class?
Most of our classes will fill to capacity this summer so that's usually not an option. For missed classes, please contact our studio to schedule a time to pick-u a complimentary Open Studio Saturday pass that is valid through September 30th.
